Honeywell has announced a new partnership the Vancouver Taxi Association that will involve the installation of video monitoring cameras in local taxicabs. The partnership involves installation of FareView™ digital mobile surveillance systems in 500 cars of association member fleets.

The decision to install the surveillance system, which operates in all conditions and can hold up to three days worth of information, came after a mandate by the British Colombia Passenger Transportation Board requiring cameras in all taxis.

The Honeywell system is expected to help reduce the violent crime rate associated with taxis and taxi drivers. Based on the statistics from other major cities utilizing the FareView system, a 70-percent drop in robberies could be possible.
