Honeywell International Inc. has recalled about 1,000 control panels used in home alarm systems because of a faulty memory chip.
The Apex Destiny 6100 and 6100AN security system control panels are used to sound an alarm during a fire or break-in. The chips, made by Milpitas, Calif.-based Xicor Inc., could lose programming during a power outage exceeding four hours, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The control panels were manufactured by Ademco de Juarez SRL of Mexico and distributed by Honeywell.
The system failed to alert homeowners in at least three incidents, although there were no injuries or property damage.
The control panels were sold through security distributors nationwide from January through March. Honeywell is contacting customers directly and is providing replacement control panels.
