Honeywell announces a $2.5 million contract
with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for an integrated
security system to be installed in the new
269,000-square-foot Bassett Army Community Hospital
located at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. The
contract is to include a new patient protection
technology.

“For an Army hospital, quick response time and anongoing awareness of what is happening in the building arecritical to maintaining patient, staff and equipmentsafety,” says Security Manager Ray Heuer with the U.S.Army Medical Department Activity in Alaska. “Theintegrated Honeywell system will provide comprehensivesecurity and instant information on all activities as theyoccur, allowing us to respond immediately to issues.”

The facility will be made as self sufficient aspossible, housing a dental office, pharmacy and others.This is because of the extreme weather conditions inAlaska where the temperature can drop to -65 degrees F.

The new security system will be linked to otherbuilding systems throughout the base with HoneywellEnterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI), a managementplatform that brings core building functions under asingle, simplified monitoring and control system. Thiswill enable Army personnel to access and manage any systemin real-time from any workstation.

According to Honeywell, the firm has performed workinvolving fire and security controls and for a variety offacilities at Fort Wainwright for more than 25 years.
