The Honeywell 5800 series of commercial wireless products was recently accepted by Rhode Island fire marshals as a means of providing fire protection in their jurisdiction. According to Honeywell, the 5800 line is ideal for difficult-to-wire applications where hazardous material prevents the use of cable and hardwired components or where room aesthetics is an issue.
Honeywell and HB Alarms of Cranston, R.I., worked together to encourage the state’s fire marshals to accept the 5800 series of wireless products. A spokesman for HB Alarms says that unlike wireless devices, systems requiring the routing of cable through sealed walls, trenching and other steps take a tremendous amount of time, resulting in higher installation cost. The system was ultimately accepted because it carries the proper UL listing and it complies with NFPA fire codes.
