Honeywell Int’l Inc. has won a multimillion-dollar contract to design and install CCTV and access control systems to the Panama Canal Authority, which is planning major improvements along the 87-year-old waterway. The project will be executed in multiple phases until the entire length of the 48-mile canal receives updated security facilities. The access control system will cover some 3,100 employees of the canal. “The contract could be worth several million dollars over the next two to three years,” says Tom Crane, spokesman for Honeywell. The work will include installing equipment and software for an advanced access control system with state-of-the-art digital video surveillance of ships in the canal and the facilities lining it.
