Honeywell Wins $30M Contact to Secure 2010 Winter Games
Honeywell has been selected by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to provide a perimeter intrusion detection system for 18 of the major venues that will be used during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
As part of the $30.5 million contract, Honeywell will install, support and remove the system after the games are completed. The system will consist of assessment and detection equipment mounted around the venues that will alert security personnel when a disturbance is identified.
Honeywell will also provide 24/7 service support to ensure the system is fully operational at all times throughout the games. Staging and testing of the system is expected to start immediately.
“This contract ensures that we will have the appropriate infrastructure in place around the venues that we are mandated to secure for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” says Assistant Commissioner Bud Mercer, COO of the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit. “Perimeter intrusion detection is an important part of a multi-layered security strategy and this announcement confirms that we are on track and continue to move forward.”
To meet the tight timelines and geographic challenges – from mountain terrain to urban settings – Honeywell will work with local contractors and employ more than 200 people at peak.
Honeywell recently provided large-scale security installations for the Beijing 2008 and Sydney 2000 Olympics.
