HSM Adds 2,200 Colorado Accounts After Acquiring Jackson Alarm

DENVER

HSM has added 2,200 commercial and residential accounts in
Colorado to its portfolio after purchasing Denver, Colo.’s
Jackson Burglar Alarm. The sale will seemingly bring to an
end a two-century association the “Jackson” name has had
with alarm systems in the Denver area.  The terms of the
sale were not disclosed.

Included in the sale are accounts in Denver, Fort Collins,
Castle Rock and Boulder. HSM was formerly the monitoring
business for Honeywell under the Honeywell Security
Monitoring name before it was
sold
off to private investors in 2004
.

The Jackson family first entered the alarm business when in
1915, then-15-year-old John Stewart Jackson III joined
Denver Fire Reporter – founded in 1892 – recording water
consumption for billing. In 1917, Jackson took over
leadership after Denver Fire Reporter’s owner went missing
and was never found. That began a long tenure where the
company evolved into Denver Burglar Alarm and was one of
the pioneering companies of the electronic security
industry.

Denver Burglar Alarm was sold by John Stewart Jackson IV in
February 1996 to H. Wayne Huizenga’s Republic Industries,
with Jackson staying on as CEO. Jackson left Denver Burglar
Alarm after it and the other Republic security assets were
sold to Ameritech’s SecurityLink division in October 1997
(a year after current HSM CEO Jim Covert left SecurityLink,
which eventually was sold to Tyco’s ADT).

A year later, Jackson started Jackson Burglar Alarm. It is
unclear if he will continue to have a role under the HSM
ownership, but he said in a statement the sale will be a
huge boost for his customers.

“With technology changing almost daily, this broad ability
to provide the most advanced service will only enhance the
quality of service our customers are used to receiving,”
Jackson said.
