IBM Corp. is in talks to acquire analytic software vendor Verint Systems Inc. following its entry into the video surveillance market, according several news reports.
Founded in 1994, Verint provides software-based data analysis systems for the business intelligence and security markets.
The main link between Verint and IBM is in the surveillance camera sector. IBM announced in November it had started selling security software that analyzes data from video surveillance cameras in real-time, generating instant alerts of potential security breaches. The new product, called Smart Surveillance System or S3, can transmit information collected by digital video cameras over computer networks, allowing it to be monitored remotely.
Based in Herzliya, Israel, with U.S. headquarters in Denver,Verint was a fully owned subsidiary of Comverse Technology before going public in 2002 on the Nasdaq. Comverse still holds a 57-percent stake in the company. Verint has a current market cap of around $1 billion.
