Identix Inc. is going to be part of a team that will
provide the technology for the United Kingdom Passport
Service’s (UKPS) six-month trial of biometric
enrollment.

SchlumbergerSema, a information technology company, is
leading the effort and selected Identix as its sub-
contractor to provide fingerprint imaging and facial
matching technologies for the pilot program.

“This is an excellent opportunity to assist the U.K.
Passport Service,” Identix President and CEO Joseph J.
Atick said in a release. “We look forward to working
closely with SchlumbergerSema to provide leading biometric
fingerprint imaging and facial recognition technology.”

The use of biometric technologies for the UKPS pilot
project will conform with the recommendations of the
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The trial
will take six months beginning in January. During that
time, 10,000 volunteers will be enrolled and receive
personalized demonstration smart cards carrying both
printed and electronic information.
