AUSTIN, Texas – IdenTrust, part of HID Global, has joined the DirectTrust Partnership for Patients Program (P4PP), a new nonprofit alliance of more than 150 health IT and healthcare provider organizations that are collaborating to support secure, interoperable health information exchange via direct message protocols.
IdenTrust digital certificates provide identity proofing with EHNAC-DirectTrust accredited healthcare information service providers to ensure the security and privacy of E-mail communications within P4PP, according to the company.
“There is a growing demand by patients and consumers to be able to access their health information and communicate with their healthcare provider electronically, without fear that their privacy is being compromised,” says DirectTrust President and CEO David C. Kibbe, MD. “IdenTrust, as a member of DirectTrust and participant in [P4PP], provides digital certificates which add trust to communications containing sensitive personal information, making it possible for patients to share healthcare information with both ease and the confidence that their privacy is protected.”

Individuals who join P4PP will have access to DirectTrust’s nationwide network of 58,000 healthcare organizations. They can also take advantage of Direct exchange, which enables simple electronic health information exchange similar to regular E-mail, with added encryption and identity assurance for additional privacy protection.
P4PP was launched at the recent annual meeting of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in Washington, D.C.
