Increased Summer Crime Calls for More Home Security Systems
BOCA RATON, Fla.
Home burglary rates typically peak during summer months and provide security integrators with the opportunity to install new security systems with eager homeowners.
A home is burglarized every 15 seconds in the U.S. and crimes to property, like homes, represent over 75 percent of all crimes reported, states a crime report published by the FBI.
“As the crime rate in many markets continues increasing, we keep seeing more people who are concerned about their safety calling security companies,” says Merlin Guilbeau, National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) executive director. “Security systems have become the ‘must have’ item for the home.”
According to a recently released study by Rutgers University, burglars tend to avoid homes with alarm systems. A Temple University study states a monitored alarm system make a home three times less likely to be burglarized versus a home without an alarm.
“As there continues to be a growing need for security systems,” Guilbeau says, “we want all consumers to answer one question, ‘Got Security?’ “
