ST. LOUIS — Security industry professionals are mourning the loss of Carl R. Will, founder of Will Electronics, who died on Jan. 26.
Will developed his love for electronics during his time in the Navy Reserve. In 1955 he founded Carl Will TV, a television and radio repair business that he operated out of his basement. With a love for experimenting with new technologies, Will soon started repairing video equipment, particularly CCTV systems.
In 1981, the company began specializing in the complete design, engineering and installation of CCTV and security systems. Will turned the company over to his sons Kurt and Carl H. Will in 1986, at which time the name of the company was changed to Will Electronics.
The business, which serves as a member company of the Alarm Association of Greater St. Louis (AASGL), now employs nearly 30 managers, technicians and other personnel.
Will died from complications of a stroke at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, a sister and 17 grandchildren.
