The assets of wireless access control manufacturer Recognition Source LLC have been acquired by Ingersoll-Rand Co.’s (IR) Security & Safety division and will now likely be manufactured under the “Schlage” brand. The purchase price of the deal has not been released.

Recognition Source produces wireless access control products and other wireless devices for the electronic security field. Recognition Source founder and CEO Fred Conforti will join IR as part of the acquisition, though it has not been announced what his title will be.

“He will still very much be a part of the business,” Martin Huddart, IR’s vice president of business development for electronic control systems, told Security Sales & Integration. “We will try to build on what Fred Conforti started.”

Huddart says the acquisition is part of a greater push by IR into the electronic security and safety market. He says IR has a strategic plan to move that market from 10 percent to 25 percent of IR’s portfolio by 2009.

“We’ve acquired our way into a leadership position for wireless access control,” says Huddart, who adds wireless solutions will have a broad appeal. “Our mission is to send the message this isn’t just for university buildings. This is for all vertical markets.”

The Recognition Source name was not part of the asset purchase, and IR has said that it is likely the former Recognition Source products will be manufactured under the familiar Schlage brand name.

“The final branding hasn’t been fully decided, but there’s a brand benefit,” Huddart says.
