Integrator Takes on Hurricane to Install System for Police Department

Published: April 10, 2006

Overcoming delays caused by the landfall of Hurricane Rita, a Dallas-based systems integrator has installed for the police department in Beaumont, Texas, an integrated access control and CCTV system. SecureNet Inc. installed a new access control system, video surveillance system, digital video recorder (DVR) and badging software to replace the old security system at the Beaumont Police Department’s (BPD) headquarters.

The access control system was partially installed when Rita made landfall last Sept. 23. With power out, the access system had to run on backup power. However, the access system proved to be an asset as the town and East Texas picked up from the devastating hurricane

“We weren’t completely installed, but when the storm hit we had the doors and card access completed,” said BPD training/range master Jerry Jackson. “Most of the department was sleeping in the station, so we were lucky.”

After the storm’s aftermath created a one-month delay in the installation, SecureNet was able to complete it.

The installed DVR stores 36 to 42 days of footage, while antiquated black-and-white cameras were replaced with color cameras in tamper-proof domes.
