NEW ORLEANS
Published: April 20, 2004

Systems integrator and distributor Southern Electronics Supply has been awarded a contract to install 1,000 security cameras for the city of New Orleans and its police department. The cameras will be installed in random spots of the city in an effort to deter crime.

Details of the equipment to be used are being kept confidential by the city, as are most other details of the installation. Greg Meffert, who heads New Orleans’ information technology office, told the Times-Picayune that the cost of the installation would not exceed “$2 to $3 million” with each camera costing between $4,000 and $9,000.

Southern Electronics Supply, based in New Orleans and founded in 1932 as Southern Radio Supply, supplies electronics products throughout the south and will oversee the New Orleans installation.

Among the subcontractors that will be used will be New Orleans-based electrical contractor Robinson Industries and CCTV provider Active Solutions, also of New Orleans.
