INGLEWOOD, Calif. — This wasn’t exactly the Hollywood opening Steve Ballmer was planning for the high-tech Intuit Dome.
Intuit Dome, the new home of his Los Angeles Clippers, suffered major technology glitches ahead of the arena’s opening night Bruno Mars concert Friday night, as the building’s internet connection alternated between spotty and non-existent, triggering extended lines all over the place.
“The facial recognition was a disaster,” a concertgoer who wished to remain anonymous told FOX 11 in its report on the technology nightmare for Ballmer, the former Microsoft bigwig who is moving his NBA basketball team into its own home after they had shared homes with the crosstown Lakers for years. “Grabbing food and going was not happening. I knew they’d have bugs but that was wild.”
Intuit Dome Social Media Backlash
Several other attendees took to social media as they waited to get into Intuit Dome Friday night to “share similar experiences and called for the arena to get it together for their next event,” according to the FOX 11 report.
“Not a good look for opening day,” one X user wrote, the report says.
“I guess we had a few issues with no line concept, another X user wrote.
“There’s no official line, the apps don’t work, the Wi-Fi doesn’t work, the workers’ phones are on SOS, the facial recognition from Biometric isn’t working so they’re telling people with Androids to pull up their barcode on Ticketmaster,” wrote another frustrated X user as they waited in line.
The good news for fans who navigated the seemingly endless Intuit Dome lines and finally got to their seats to see the Grammy Award winner take the stage is his live show met or exceeded all of their expectations, according to the FOX 11 report.
The set included a surprise cameo by Lady Gaga, who joined Mars on stage to sing their new duet, “Die With a Smile.”
