Published: December 31, 1999

At the plush Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan, about 200 security industry executives rubbed elbows with investors, bankers and brokers interested in the security business at the 5th Annual Securing New Ground Conference from Nov. 3-4. According to Jeff Kessler, an analyst for Lehman Brothers and one of the conference sponsors, investment in industries that are not Internet-related has been difficult in 1999.

Attendees witnessed several intriguing new technology demos, covering data encryption, remote video transmission, executive protection and home systems. Once again, the Internet was the highlight, with many new technologies focusing on the World Wide Web.

Securing New Ground is co-sponsored by several entities: Lehman Brothers, Pro-Finance Associates, STAT Resources, Sandra Jones & Co., and Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP. Security Sales Magazine acts as one of the event’s publication sponsors. Jason Knott, publisher of Security Sales, participated in a “captains of the industry” panel, along with Leo Guthart of Pittway, Jules Kroll of Kroll O’Gara, and Nobuyuki Sasaki of SECOM.
