After much speculation, Comcast and Alarm.com have officially acquired parts of Icontrol, as was announced on Thursday.

Comcast has acquired Icontrol’s Converge software platform, while Alarm.com bought its Connect and Piper business units. Alarm.com’s transaction price was approximately $140 million.

Daniel Herscovici, senior vice president and general manager at Xfinity Home, said Thursday morning that the Converge software platform “powers the Xfinity Home touch-screen panel and back-end servers, allowing them to communicate with and manage security sensors in the home, as well as supporting home automation devices like cameras and thermostats.”

Icontrol has been a technology partner of Comcast’s since it launched Xfinity Home in 2010.

“As this business becomes part of Comcast,” Herscovici continued, “we will strategically invest in its technology and technologists, so that we can deliver new features, products and services to both individual Xfinity Home customers and enterprise-level Converge customers, faster than ever before.”

Meanwhile, Alarm.com’s purchase of Connect gives it an interactive security and home automation platform that powers several service providers’ solutions such as ADT Pulse to more than 1.6 million subscribers. Piper designs, produces and sells a WiFi-enabled video and home automation hub.

“This acquisition will enhance our research and development scale so that we can continue to deliver long-term value to our partners through innovative technology,” said Steve Trundle, president and CEO of Alarm.com. “We look forward to welcoming the Icontrol team and to building upon the solid relationships within their customer base.”
