Johnson Controls Partners With Cisco on Smart Building Initiative

Johnson Controls became a founding building automation partner for Cisco Digital Ceiling.

MILWAUKEE — Johnson Controls has joined Cisco Digital Ceiling as a founding building automation partner. The Digital Ceiling framework “provides a platform to deliver better user experiences through the convergence of the IT network and building technologies, including HVAC, lighting, security, motion detection, and other sensors and actuators,” as documented by ArchNews.com.

“Building owners and operators are looking to us to identify how technology can support their business outcomes, reduce costs, and minimize risks,” said Jim Nannini, vice president, North America Building Wide Systems Integration (BWSI), Johnson Controls. “As more data becomes available, Johnson Controls’ system integration capabilities allow building owners and operators to make more insightful decisions for smarter, connected, and secure buildings.”

Johnson Controls and Cisco see the Digital Ceiling framework as a way to apply the benefits of the Internet of Things (IoT) throughout facilities to improve productivity, safety and comfort of building occupants, the report states.

“Cisco is excited to continue to build on our growing relationship with Johnson Controls and welcome them as one of our founding partners to help bring the Digital Ceiling to life,” said Tony Shakib, vice president, IoT verticals business unit, Cisco. “The company’s leadership position as one of the most experienced building integrators, and its extensive line card of building technologies and customer relationships, will help shape and accelerate this business transformation.”
