WICHITA, Kan. – The Kansas Wildlife Exhibit plans to upgrade security by adding video surveillance cameras to cages to monitor animals.
Officials at the exhibit decided to make the upgrades after a beaver and a bobcat escaped from their cages.

In one incident, Bobby, the exhibit’s 18-year-old bobcat escaped after vandals cut a hole in his cage in late June. Authorities later found him hours later, hiding in some shrubbery a few feet away from his residence, The Wichita Eagle reports.
At the time of Bobby’s escape, the exhibit’s 25-year-old security system, which emits an audible alarm when an invisible laser line is crossed, was malfunctioning because ants had gotten into the wiring, according to exhibit officials.
The exhibit will now use part of a $100,000 donation from the Pamela J. Edward Pet Trust to install security cameras, as well as make upgrades to the animal cages.
