Kodak is getting into the home-security camera business … at least indirectly.
Chinon Industries Inc., a Japan-based subsidiary of Eastman Kodak, says it will begin to design and manufacture a home surveillance camera.
Up until now, Chinon has been exclusively a manufacturer of handheld digital cameras, including many sold in the U.S. under the Kodak name. However, in a press release, Chinon says it needed to find additional sources of revenue besides digital cameras.
Chinon says its home security cameras will combine its digital camera technology with video recording functions and will be marketed to security equipment manufacturers. It is unclear whether Chinon will supply the cameras to companies in North America or whether any will be manufactured under the Kodak name.
