Identity verification and detection company L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. announces $6.3 million in purchase orders from the U.S. Department of State (DoS) for U.S. passport printers. The orders were received by L-1’s wholly owned subsidiary, Trans Digital Technologies Corp.

The printers will be used in mega-processing centers in Arizona and Arkansas, and will enable DoS to produce an estimated 22 million passports in 2008. The mega-processing printers represent the new approach to production of American passports and are expected to be in operation by June.

“L-1 has more than 20 years of experience in developing the most secure credentialing solutions possible and will deliver a highly readable and tamper-resistant passport that the DoS can be assured is protected against sophisticated threats of counterfeiting and forgery,” says Leo Sullivan, president of the Secure Credentialing Division of L-1 Identity Solutions.
