Pelco of Clovis, Calif., releases a line of unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) products to the security marketplace as part of its entry into the structured cabling market. UTP is a viable alternative to coaxial cable, says Pelco. This allows security dealers to route video signals through existing telephone cable rather than expending the added labor and metallic coaxial cable. This represents considerable savings to both the dealer and the end user.
UTP can be used to connect cameras to DVRs, matrix switchers and multiplexers. It can also be used to carry video signals from one place to another in applications where coax cable cannot be installed. According to Pelco, the UTP line is fully compatible with the PelcoFiber product line and is immediately compatible with all other products made by Pelco.
