Leviton Manufacturing Co. offered its products and sponsorship for a special two-hour episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” that aired in May on the ABC network. Leviton, along with a number of corporate sponsors, joined a New York community in helping Suffolk County police officer John Vitale fulfill a promise he made to his wife, now deceased, to raise his family in a home the two had planned to renovate.
Leviton’s contributions included its structured cabling system and its Decoraâ cameras. The cameras, which allow Vitale to monitor his family from multiple locations in his home, were installed in four separate areas of the house.
Leviton also installed a whole-house phone, television and high-speed Internet access with networking capabilities, along with IllumaTechâ dimmers and Decora receptacles and wall plates.
“Watching the Long Island community mobilize to help this family in dire straits was a formidable experience for all of us at Leviton who participated on the project,” said William Fodor, director of distribution marketing for Leviton. “I have never before witnessed such an overwhelming positive work environment and spirit of cooperation, dedication and goodwill.”
Leviton is not the only security-related firm to have played a part in the popular ABC series. Scottsdale, Ariz., alarm company Safeguard Security and Communications also contributed to a recent episode of “Extreme Makeover.”
