LINCOLN, Ill. — A new ordinance here will regulate fees and authorize new fines to help reduce false fire alarm calls. The fines will also generate compensation for the Lincoln Fire Department’s costs of various runs due to false alarms.
The new rule allows homeowners three false alarms within a year, reports the Lincoln Courier. If the fire department receives more than three false alarm calls for residences, the fine will cost $50 for each alarm up to 10 in a year. Homeowners will face fines of $150 for every call thereafter.
Business owners will pay $100 for each false alarm up to and including six within a year. For each false alarm up to 10, business owners will face a $200 fine; a $300 fine will be charged for each false alarm above 10.
