Expanding its consumer electronics group of companies, wireless residential security systems and RF-based remote controls supplier Linear Corp. has acquired ELAN Home Systems. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Linear says acquiring the privately held Lexington, Ky.-based maker of high-performance home entertainment equipment both broadens and upgrades its residential automation product offering and expands its move into the homebuilder market. Earlier acquisitions by Linear include Multiplex Technology (Channel Plus), makers of residential multiple location video and telecommunications distribution systems, and Xantech, a maker of residential infrared remote control systems for home entertainment systems.

“The addition of ELAN makes us very serious contenders for a substantial piece of the upscale house-wide controls market,” says Linear CEO Grant Rummell.

ELAN’s product line includes power amplifiers, intelligent keypads, in-wall speakers, and phone-based intercom controllers. The company sells through its approximate 500 authorized dealers in the United States.
