Live Mobile Video Feed Leads to Quick Dispatch, Burglary Arrest
A homeowner called 911 after viewing intruders inside his residence; two suspects were soon arrested in the neighborhood.
RENTON, Wash. – Two burglary suspects are in jail after a homeowner here saw them on surveillance images sent to his phone, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.
Thursday morning (May 29) the homeowner was at work when he got a text message with a photo showing two men inside his hallway. After the homeowner called 911, Renton Police descended on the neighborhood and used descriptions provided by the homeowner. Two men, ages 34 and 48, two blocks away with electronics stolen from the home were apprehended.
Police then reviewed the video surveillance, which clearly shows the two men as they traveled through the house, ransacking rooms, according to KIRO 7.
“The police were thrilled we had them on video,” one homeowner told a KIRO 7 reporter. The homeowners said they spent a few hundred dollars on a surveillance system from Costco after they were burglarized twice in five months a couple of years ago.
Renton Police said the system not only helped them arrest the burglars quickly, but it will also help build the case against them.
“It gives us hard, concrete evidence,” said Sgt. Dan Figaro.
Figaro said there has been a slight recent increase in burglaries in the Kennydale area, and the investigation into Thursday’s burglary will look for any connection.
