Lockheed Martin Wins Huge FBI Database Contract

ROCKVILLE, Md.

The FBI awarded Lockheed Martin a contract worth up to $1 billion to develop and maintain a database for fingerprints and other biometric information.

The Next Generation Identification (NGI) system will double the FBI’s database fingerprint capacity and will include other identifiers such as palm prints, iris and facial recognition.

Lockheed Martin’s Transportation and Security Solutions branch won the one-year deal valued at about $40 million, but if all nine one-year options are exercised, the contract’s value will approach $1 billion, according to the Associated Press.

The deal is a major upgrade to the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System because it allows the agency to more easily share anti-terrorism information with domestic and international partners.

“We were proud to collaborate with the FBI on the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, the largest system in the world of its type,” says Judy Marks, president, Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Solutions. “We’re tremendously pleased to partner with the agency once again to deliver the next quantum leap in capability.”

Lockheed will provide program management and oversight as well as biometric and large systems development and integration expertise. The team also includes Accenture, BAE Systems Information Technology Inc., Global Science & Technology (GST), Innovative Management & Technology Services (IMTS), Platinum Solutions and the National Center for State Courts (NCSC).

Accenture is responsibilities interoperability and change management; BAE Systems will work on external interface requirements engineering, as well as security design. GST and IMTS will provide important program continuity in addition to systems engineering.
