In preparation for the April 1 Webinar, ISC Preview: The State of Security-Centric Home Automation, I’ve been reviewing the exhibitor list for ISC West 2015.
Here’s one of the gems I found: a smart lever lock from Korea-based Locksis, carried in the U.S. by Segos America.
The lock replaces a standard doorknob, adding features such as a six-digit engraved “keypad” embedded on the lever itself.

Powered by four AAA batteries, the device has an onboard alarm and LEDs that emit upon certain events such as when someone tries an incorrect code too many times, prompting red lights to flash and a lock-out of three minutes.
The lever locks automatically when the door is shut, but there is a 30-minute override (can be used multiple times) that allows the lever to stay unlocked for an extended period, say, if the user is expecting guests.
Another interesting feature is a built-in fire sensor that unlocks the door automatically, which prompts the question: Can someone set fire to the thing to breach the lock?
The video is worth watching. This is a cool product that I’m looking forward to seeing at ISC West 2015. Now, if only it had Bluetooth or Z-Wave.
