ADT Security Services has installed video surveillance cameras and security systems in public areas of Town of Oyster Bay, located in Nassau County, Long Island, N.Y, in an effort to beef up security and provide emergency management solutions.

With a population of about 300,000, the Town of Oyster Bay encompasses 18 villages and 18 hamlets. The community’s public safety department utilizes its expanding surveillance system – parts of which feature the latest in wireless mesh technology – to keep watch on more than 180 parks, popular beaches and other municipal areas.

“More and more communities like Oyster Bay are installing public safety cameras to provide an extra set of eyes to help better manage resources,” says John Gaydos, ADT vice president, Government Systems.  “Of course, the safety, security and peace of mind these systems offer are important to members of the community who use the public parks and beaches. And public safety camera systems also offer cities and town significant added value by giving them the ability to view conditions remotely and see where resources are needed.”

ADT first began working with the community in 2003. Last fall the company installed a security solution at an ice skating center located in Bethpage Community Park. Next to receive a video surveillance installation is the Hicksville parking garage, serving the largest train station on Long Island.

The Town of Oyster Bay receives more than 50,000 visitors a day during the summer. The community is famous for Sagamore Hill, which served as President Theodore Roosevelt’s “summer White House” from 1902 to 1908.
