Louisiana Makes Post-Hurricane Changes to Licensing for Dealers

WASHINGTON
Published: September 20, 2005

With the basic necessities of just trying to get back on one’s feet having much more urgency than licensing requirements for life safety and security contractors, Louisiana has instituted emergency changes to its licensing guidelines.

Displaced employees can work for another licensed firm for six months without submitting a revised license application, while companies that have been forced to a new location can continue to operate under their license as long as they submit their change of address to the state.

Louisiana licensing officials also say they will be giving priority to applications from new employees of existing firms. For new Type C burglar alarm installers, the Level 1 training course requirement is being waved for their first six months of employment.

The emergency guidelines will be in effect until April 1.
