GULFPORT, Fla. – The city of Gulfport has filed a lawsuit against Maximum Security Solutions, claiming that the security systems integrator has not fulfilled terms of an agreement to replace nonworking security cameras.

The city purchased a dozen security cameras from Maximum Security Solutions in 2011 for $36,529.94 to monitor the city marina following a string of petty thefts. City officials had hoped that the surveillance cameras would ensure Gulfport Marina was a safe place to dock, Tampa Bay Times reports.

However, six of the 12 cameras are not operating.

Maximum Security Solutions offered a 60-month/five-year warranty for all parts and labor required to repair of service all equipment, an agreement city officials claim has not been fulfilled.

City officials say that the security systems integrator either refuses to respond to their repeated calls for service or that no one shows up when the company promises to check on the equipment.

The lack of functional cameras has made it difficult for the city to monitor the marina. In December, someone stole a vessel from the venue.

City attorney Andrew Salzman noted that there would not be a lawsuit if Maximum Security Solutions responded to the city’s request for service.

“If they would just return our calls and follow through with the terms of the agreement, we wouldn’t have filed the lawsuit,” Salzman told Tampa Bay Times. “By not following through, they’ve pushed us to the limits.”
