McCormick (S.C.) Pursues Ordinance to Reduce False Fire Alarms

Published: March 13, 2012

McCORMICK, S.C. — The town council here unanimously approved the first reading for a false fire alarm ordinance, reports the Index-Journal.

McCormick Fire Department Fire Chief Mike Barron proposed the ordinance in February, citing that responding to false fire alarms has proved too costly for the department.

Under the proposed ordinance, the first two false alarms would be free. Offenders would then have to pay a $50 for the third false alarm and $100 for the fourth. A $250 fee will be charged beginning with the fifth call.
