MDI Security, ABM Data Systems Consolidating Operations

American Building Control Inc. is closing the headquarters of its MDI Security Systems and ABM Data Systems operations and consolidating them into one location. MDI is closing its Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., hub, while ABM will be shutting its doors in Austin, Texas. Both operations will be consolidating in a 32,000-square-foot facility in San Antonio.

American Building Control – founded as Ultrak Inc. in 1980 before changing its name after selling its CCTV business to Honeywell in 2002 – announced March 9 a change in company focus toward commercial and government accounts.

MDI specialized in providing access control and surveillance solutions while ABM provides alarm monitoring systems. It is unclear what will happen to MDI and ABM employees during the move to San Antonio, though American Building Control says it plans a workforce reduction as part of the move, designed to reduce operating costs.

“Bringing together the organizations in one location is an important strategic step in providing the integrated, client-focused security solutions that will drive MDI and ABM’s growth,” says MDI and ABM President J. Collier Sparks.
