After 13 years with Brink’s Home Security, Peter Michel has retired from his potision of CEO and president. The company’s former COO and senior vice president of sales and marketing, Bob Allen, has been named president. News of the change surfaced internally in May 2001, but Michel did not officially step down until the beginning of this year.
“Peter decided to go off and seek a new challenge,” Allen says. ” We’re not going to replace the CEO title.”
Allen came to the company in August 1999 and was new to the electronic security industry. Before Brink’s, Allen worked in the telemarketing business and did inbound customer service for AT&T and American Express.
As for any changes within the company, the goals have not altered since Michel’s departure. Allen says the company’s marketing strategy will change to move more into the broadcast media.
According to Allen, Brink’s Home Security lowered its disconnection rate almost 8 percent in 2001, and ended the fiscal year with $257 million in revenue. The company has more than 713,000 accounts.
As for Michel’s departure, “We all wish him well,” he says. “Peter leaves a strong legacy that I have to live up to.”
