REDMOND, Wash. – Microsoft Corp. is planning to acquire Israeli cybersecurity company Adallom for $320 million.
Founded in 2012, Adallom offers users information security technology on remote servers. The firm can reportedly secure information stored on Salesforce’s, Microsoft’s or Google’s cloud services and protect it from cyberattacks, Reuters reports.
Adallom, which has 80 employees at its offices in Israel and the United States, is expected to become the center for Microsoft’s cybersecurity business in Israel.

It’s unclear if Microsoft plans to continue Adallom as an independent company or build the firm’s technology into Microsoft’s own cloud services, such as Azure and Office 365.
However, if Microsoft allows Adallom to operate independently, the company might become a service provider for businesses that may be using competing cloud services, including Google Apps, a business suite that includes Gmail and Google Docs, as well as storage provider Dropbox, CNET.com reports.
