ST. AUGUSTIN, Québec, Canada

Microtec Enterprises Inc. reports operating income for its first quarter ending March 31 increased from $5.8 million to $7 million, an increase of 19.4 percent over the corresponding period in 2000. Revenues from monitoring and services grew from $5.6 million in 2000 to $6.4 million in 2001, an increase of 14.1 percent.

The average revenue per subscriber was $18.66, compared to $18 in the first quarter of 2000. The company generated a net loss of $163,000 in the quarter, compared with $38,000 in 2000, a loss of $80,000.

“Following a 5-percent reduction in recruitment costs in 2000, Microtec is looking to reduce these costs even more in 2001,” says Raymond Gilbert, president and CEO. “Also, a special effort will be made to continue to increase average revenue per subscriber, both for new subscribers and existing customers.”

In keeping with its strategy to increase revenues, Microtec will offer its Merlin products through its entire network and will begin marketing Général Domotic products under its partnership agreement with Hydro-Québec.

Microtec Enterprises is a provider of residential security services in Canada and is developing a position in the home automation industry.
