Minn. Integrator Custom Alarm Recognized for Workplace Practices
Security provider Custom Alarm has been honored for its workplace flexibility by the Rochester, Minn., Area Chamber of Commerce earlier this month, according to the company.
The company accepted the Alfred P. Sloan award at an Aug. 4 event honoring organizations in Rochester and across the country that are using workplace flexibility as a strategy to increase workplace effectiveness and yield positive business results. It was the second year in a row that Custom Alarm won this award.
“After we won last year, we knew we were headed in the right direction for workplace flexibility, and it was a great honor to win,” says Leigh Johnson, Custom Alarm’s chief executive. “It was also a nice push for us to continue to look at additional ways we can make this a great place to work, and we ended up getting greater productivity as a result.”
A study conducted by the nonprofit Families and Work Institute in May found that 81 percent of companies are maintaining workplace flexibility during the recession and another 13 percent are increasing it. The award honors employers who have been able to continue be good places for employees to work while dealing with these very difficult business survival issues.
“From new forms of flexible work arrangements that minimize lay-offs, to creative cost-cutting that retains core medical benefits, to providing financial information and support to employees, these employers are braving the economic storm through innovative policies that prevent undue shock to their workplaces and their employees,” says Ellen Galinsky, president of Families and Work Institute.
Custom Alarm has been installing security and sound systems since 1968. The Rochester office is also home to their UL-listed, FM-approved central monitoring station. The company also operates two branch offices located in Winona and St. Paul, Minn.
