Mission 500 Helps Children in Mexico
MEXICO CITY
George Fletcher, volunteer and founder of Mission 500, arranged for a group of Mission 500 supporters to tour with World Vision Mexico to help abandoned, neglected, abused and homeless children from the streets of Mexico.
Taking time outside of the work environment to visit the Niños de la Calle project were Alexandro Salinas of Bolide; Alex Mathieson of Pelco; Frank Owen of Altronix; Glenn Patrizio of LRG Int’l; Liliana Torres of GE Security; Samuel Ordaz and Sandra Ordaz of Giprex; and Richard Hahn of Richard Hahn & Associates.
The group toured two sites of the Niños de la Calle project: the Casa Hovde, a residential living area for children moving away from street life; and The Patio, a drop-in center where children come for short periods of time to find a haven from the streets.
The ALAS Casino Night, held during the Expo Seguridad de Mexico, served as fundraiser for Mission 500 to help the street kids in Mexico. ALAS donated $500 from the proceeds of the direct bar and casino sales to Mission 500. Attendees also joined in the generosity, donating nearly $15,000.
“More than 120 persons attended the gala that night and it seemed that everybody enjoyed themselves at the casino tables and networking,” says Frans Kemper, executive director of ALAS. “It was a perfect event that we used as a springboard for a great cause.”
