MODESTO, Calif. — The Modesto Police Department has unveiled three drones that it will use to fight crime and possibly save lives.

The drones cost a total of $5,000, which is a bargain compared to police helicopters, which can cost more than $650 per hour to operate, according to ABC 10. The drones were purchased in April.

One arrest has already been made thanks to the drones. “We’ve deployed [unmanned aerial vehicles] on that search warrant and subsequently that suspect fled out the back of the house through a window and was captured after our UAV pilot radioed that the suspect was running out of the house,” says Sgt. David Mullins of the Modesto Police Department.
