MONITRONICS, VICINIUM SYSTEMS TO PROVIDE IP-ENABLED MONITORING

Monitronics Int’l and Vicinium Systems Inc. have formed a strategic alliance in which Monitronics will leverage Vicinium’s NeighborMation(tm) software to communicate with security and access systems over an IP network instead of the traditional telephone network.

Company officials say the result will be lower operating costs for a traditional central monitoring infrastructure, as well as the opportunity to aggregate new end users who use a persistent broadband connection.

Vicinium integrates information with real-world devices and home systems. It also develops software solutions that enable neighborhood automation. The technology leverages the benefits of broadband connectivity to link local content and services to physical activities within the home and the neighborhood.

The NeighborMation platform enables new services such as forming an electronic neighborhood watch program, automatically turning on the television during a severe weather emergency, receiving an E-mail when kids arrive home and disarm the security system, and more.

“The benefits of broadband are clear, and we fully intend to leverage those benefits in order to provide a superior product to our authorized dealers and customers,” says Michael Gregory, Monitronics’ vice president of sales and marketing. “Vicinium technology gives us the means to achieve that goal.”

Monitronics is a provider of monitoring to residential and business customers across the United States.
