Motion-Sensor Video Surveillance Helps Police Nab Burglar in No Time in Newtown, Conn.

Police were able to arrest Christopher Isaacson in the front yard of the house he allegedly robbed.

NEWTOWN, Conn. — A burglar’s attempt to steal a $1,500 painting from a home here was completely thrown off the rails when police converged on the scene as the suspect stood in the front yard.

The homeowner has his home security system to thank for the quick and swift action took against the thief. The owner had a motion-sensor video surveillance camera in the house that sent an alert to their phone, according to the News Times. A live feed of the act was seen by the homeowner, who called the police and led to the arrest of Christopher Isaacson, 57.

“This is definitely the first time that we have a live feed of a burglary in progress,” Sgt. Aaron Bahamonde said. “It gives us a huge advantage.”

The surveillance device used by the homeowner was made by Canary.

Had it not been for the motion-sensor security system, police would likely still be searching for the suspect, Bahamonde said.

“We would have a suspect who’s not known to us, he is from a different town altogether, and we had no prior dealings with him,” Bahamonde said. “That’s definitely a shot in the dark.”

Isaacson was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, criminal trespass and possession of burglary tools.
