Motorola Inc.‘s Commercial Government and Industrial Solutions Sector—through Printrak, a wholly owned subsidiary—announces it has been awarded a contract to provide a $3 million national civil identification system to the Republic of El Salvador. The system will use Prinktrak’s Civil Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), which will enable a countrywide, ID card-based verification process for the citizens of El Salvador and support a database of up to 3 million fingerprint records.
The Republic of El Salvador, with a population of more than 4 million, will be joining a growing number of countries in Latin America and around the world that have implemented Printrak’s Civil AFIS solution as a foundation for their national identification networks. Others using the system are Guatemala and Argentina.
Motorola has an integral role in the project directed by prime contractor Docusal, a subsidiary of Cosmocolor and a provider of integrated security identification systems. “We are looking forward to implementing Printrak’s Civil AFIS for our countrywide identification project,” said Lorena Barba, Docusal general manager. “This state-of-the-art system will automate identity verification practices throughout El Salvador for the National Register of Natural Persons.”
