NBFAA Approves ESA Name Change

Published: September 9, 2009

IRVING, Texas — In an effort to strengthen its relationship with a broader membership demographic, the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) has officially changed its name to the Electronic Security Association (ESA).

The name change came after 79 percent of the membership voted in favor of the ESA title. According to ESA President Mike Miller, the decision did not come lightly.

“There were many hours of discussion and reflection, before the NBFAA Strategic Planning and Executive Committees and its Board of Directors voted to recommend an update of the association brand name to the membership,” Miller says.

According to the association, the new name and composite brand more accurately represents the services that its members and prospective members provide.

In addition, ESA says the new name strengthens its cause with federal and state legislators as lobbying efforts are increased, and ultimately puts it in position to increase membership and widen its influence.

The association’s mission to promote, protect and serve its members and their businesses will remain the same, Miller says. ESA will introduce its new logo and work to amend the identity of the 61-year-old association over the next several weeks.
