Legislation permitting security companies to review
criminal records of private security officer applicants
awaits a vote from the House of Representatives, but the
National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) says it
is still fighting to be included in the bill.
Citing the inability of its members to screen their
applicants, NBFAA appealed to the House of Representatives
Judiciary Committee in a statement for the Congressional
Record.
“At this time, many of our members do not have the ability
to effectively screen their applicants and better ensure
the safety of their clients,” it stated. “NBFAA believes
strongly that this must change.”
The association also met with an FBI supervisory special
agent who sits on the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and
Homeland Security.
