National media outlets picked the minds of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) throughout September as the main source for a full network news feature and a quoted source in a national financial magazine.

Consumer information provided by NBFAA was cited in a Sept. 25 report on CNNfn – the financial news network operated by the Cable News Network (CNN) – concerning home security sales. During the report, NBFAA Executive Director Merlin Guilbeau was interviewed in his first appearance on national television.

Guilbeau touted the new technologies that have made alarm systems more prevalent in homes and businesses today and warned consumers to not wait until a break-in has occurred before purchasing a security system. He also encouraged consumers to be sure that a company is licensed before agreeing to do business with it.

Also during the report, the CNNfn reporter, Valerie Morris, noted that specialists recommend consumers “choose a member of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association” to install their home security system. “That quote provides a huge boost of consumer confidence for our member companies,” says Guilbeau. “To have a national news network personality say that specialists recommend an NBFAA member to install a security system is the type of publicity that is simply priceless for our members and offers them a competitive advantage.”

Also in September, the NBFAA was mentioned in Money Magazine in a feature story on consumer best buys titled “Spend Smart.” NBFAA Communications Manager Dr. Rick Ostopowicz was quoted in the section focused on home security systems.
