The National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) is
inviting industry participants and interested individuals
to join a coalition to support a bill before Congress that
would give tax incentives for the purchase of an electronic
security system.
The legislation by Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-OH),
entitled “Secure America’s Homes and Businesses Act,” was
worked on closely with Rep. LaTourette by NBFAA and
provides a tax deduction of up to $5,000 for residential
taxpayers and $50,000 for commercial building owners for
the purchase and professional installation of electronic
premise security devices.
The security devices defined in HR 3632 would include
electronic fire/life safety, intrusion detection or burglar
alarms, video surveillance cameras and equipment, access
controls including biometrics and automated fingerprint
identification systems and any components, wiring, system
displays, terminals or other equipment needed to install
the devices.
