The National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) has put it support behind a bill that would award matching grants to colleges, universities, and fraternities and sororities to install fire alarm systems in their buildings. The “College Life Safety and Fire Protection Act” was introduced in the House on Dec. 7 by Rep. Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.).
The bill, H.R. 4460, was moved to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce and won’t likely be heard until sometime next year.
“This is one of the first bills introduced in Congress that promotes the installation of fire detection equipment, particularly in college settings,” said Scot Colby, NBFAA president, in a statement. “We are pleased to see this new direction, as our belief is that true fire safety involves both detection and suppression.”
