New Campus Fire-Safety Video Now Available; Free Copy Available Through SimplexGrinnell

HOUSTON, Texas, and WESTMINSTER, Mass.

A newly released fire-safety video to help college students understand the consequences of campus fires and what they can do to prevent them is now available. Fire and life-safety provider SimplexGrinnell is one of seven major sponsors of the video and is making it available at no cost to anyone who would like a copy for educational purposes.

Presented through the eyes of a college student, the video, called “Graduation: Fatally Denied,” provides a real-life dramatization before and after of a fire breaking out in a dorm room after a student lights a cigarette, sits down to study and falls asleep. It is written and produced by Campus Firewatch (www.campus-firewatch.com), a monthly electronic newsletter that focuses on the complex issues of campus fire safety.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 1,700 fires occur each year in dormitories and Greek housing (fraternities and sororities), resulting in more than $9 million in property damage. In 2001 alone, 19 students died in fires in dormitories, Greek housing and off-campus residences, according to Campus Firewatch.

“This video will undoubtedly prove to be a valuable and effective educational tool for teaching college students about fire safety and the critical role it plays in protecting lives and property,” says Bruce Fraser, director of industry relations for SimplexGrinnell.
