GREAT NECK, N.Y. – A temple in New York will use a $75,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security to add access control and video surveillance solutions around the structure.
Temple Israel of Great Neck, which is said to be the largest conservative congregation on the North Shore, said the security upgrades are similar to that of an airport, The Island Now.

The temple has installed access control systems at the main entrance, a service elevator and a door leading into the school on the campus. Members will be able to enter the building using either an electronic fob or a security code during non-peak times.
Video surveillance cameras at the temple have also increased from 20 to 45. The security cameras now cover almost all the property.

Other safety measures include protective film added to classroom windows, which would prevent glass from shattering over students in the case of an explosion, and locks that give the temple lock-down capabilities in the school wing.
